Growth in Sports Tourism in Poland

The tourists figures for Poland are expected to of reached 16 5 million in 2014.
According to Polish Sport and tourism Minister Andrzej Biernat, “The number of foreign tourists visiting Poland this year will reach 16.5 million, making 2014 yet another good year for the tourism sector.”
At a conference regarding the achievements that have been seen from the tourism sector over the past ten years, Biernat added, “"Spending by foreign tourists visiting Poland totals some 1.2 billion euros (1.55 billion U.S. dollars) per year -- a huge amount that fuels not only tourism businesses but all those operating around tourism." In fact, the tourism sector is responsible for about 6% of the gross domestic product and the sports tourism sector is expected to grow 8.4% in 2014.
"Thanks to EU membership, we have become part of a machine that drives the tourism economy in the EU," he said, and said that over the past 10 years, Poland was able to spend over a billion euros of EU funds in an attempt to further develop tourism.
During the first 6 months of the year over eight million Polish tourists; an increase of 8% in regards to the same period the previous year; took advantage of the tourist’s facilities that has been established in Poland, according to the Central Statistical Office.
