Poland Completes New Canoeing Centre

Recently, Inooni Jakub Zygmunt completed a brand-new canoeing centre located in in Augustow, Poland, alongside the Netta River. Its unique design features an angular, wooden structure that seems indicative of the canoes themselves.
The company acquired the contract for the project after winning a 2016 design competition, and not only created the facility itself, but additional recreational areas around it. These included various public spaces, a bike track, a playground, and a sports field.
According to architect Jakub Zygmunt, the project's goal was to create the best space possible, putting function above form whenever possible. This resulted in a 770 square meter facility that features a hub building, workout facility, and a hanger for storing canoes and kayaks.
Zygmunt claims that his plan was to compliment the surrounding landscape, but also design something dynamic and bold. The wooden exterior of the structure certainly accomplishes the former, while its angular design accomplishes the latter.
Aside from boating-related activities, the centre will also serve as a site for run training, competitions, and various club meetings. There is also a rooftop observation deck from which non-participants and judges can view the activity from the water.
