Airsoft market in the Czech Republic

The inception of airsoft in the Czech Republic can be traced back to the 1990s, when the first guns were imported from Asia. The scarcity and limited availability of firearms and accessories during that time prompted the establishment of Bohemia Air Soft in 1996. Since then, the company has grown to become the largest distributor of airsoft products in the Czech Republic. Presently, the airsoft community in the country boasts over 10,000 dedicated enthusiasts and supporters, making it one of the most vibrant and active communities worldwide. Consequently, numerous prominent European airsoft events take place in the Czech Republic, attracting international players.
Regarding the legal framework surrounding airsoft, it is important to note that airsoft guns in the Czech Republic are classified as category D firearms according to the country's gun legislation (no. 119/2002 Sb.). These guns utilize pressurized gas or air to propel plastic BBs, and typically generate a muzzle energy of up to 2.5 J. Due to the low weight of the BBs and the associated kinetic energy, airsoft guns are considered relatively safe. However, responsible and cautious handling of these firearms is crucial.
In the Czech Republic, individuals who are 18 years old or above and legally capable of performing acts are permitted to purchase airsoft guns chambered in 6mm BBs. These firearms do not require registration or a gun license for ownership. Minors are only allowed to use them under the supervision of an adult, similar to airguns. It is important to adhere to the prohibition of openly carrying category D firearms and avoid using them in a manner that could harm individuals, animals, or damage property.
When traveling abroad with airsoft guns, it is essential to be aware that gun legislation varies across countries, even within the European Union. Often, specific modifications such as attaching an orange tip or implementing other demilitarizing measures, as well as limiting the gun's power or disabling select-fire options, may be required to comply with local regulations.
