Fitness-focused Swissotel

Over the last few years, the demand for ‘wellness travel’ has skyrocketed and upmarket hotel operator, Swissotel, have responded to this by introducing new style fitness-focused guestrooms for health-conscious visitors.

Swissotel Zurich is expected to be the benefiter of this news as they plan to feature these new specialised fitness rooms from April 2016. The rooms will be kitted out with rowers, a workout system and a screen that will display virtual fitness classes. The rooms will also benefit from filtered air, functional equipment, circadian lighting and a bench in the bathroom that will replicate the heat of a sauna using infrared technology.

Vice President of spa and wellness for Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, Swissotel’s parent company, Andrew Gibson has said “There’s a fitness renaissance at the moment, with so many different niches; we want to offer a more comprehensive set of workout options to travellers. We’re also offering pars cours and outdoor running options at Swissotel sites, together with a beefed-up 24-hour gym featuring best-in-class equipment, body analysers and a strong focus on nutrition. The resurgence of fitness is definitely having an impact on hotels, which is why we’ve created this prototype concept. If it gains traction in Zurich, it’s something we’ll look at rolling out across our 30+ properties worldwide.”

Andrew Gibson also went on to state that the average stay of a customer is just over 1 day so the proposal will be mainly aimed at business travellers who are looking for ways to stay fit whilst moving around.
