Zweirad-Einkaufs-Genossenschaft eG, otherwise known as ZEG, has announce that they will be entering the tourist bike business with their new product ‘Travelbike’. The aim of the venture is said to be to create the largest rental network for e-bikes. The project is set to begin in both Austria and Germany around Easter time and will use ultra-modern e-bikes to help tourists to reach destinations as they visit the two countries.

According to the department in charge, ZEG Travelbike, they will be offering a complete package to all tourists that includes booking, an insurance policy as well as a rental portal. Franz Tepe, marketing manager for ZEG, has said “Travelbike is the solution for the constantly growing need of sustainable tourism. We offer the first complete e-bike rental concept for the tourist sector. With our products, our service and marketing, we offer quality, security and reliability for both renter and tenants.”

ZEG’s own brand names Bulls and Zemo will be used but all with the added benefits of the Bosch e-bike drive system. The insurance on offer is said to cover wear and tear as well as robbery and even damage. A ZEG representative has said “670 qualified and certificated ZEG partners are available for service and maintenance for having the optimum in reliability of these e-bikes.”

The market leader in Austria, KTM Fahrrad GmbH, will be teaming up with ZEG in the country which will be available for booking on their online portals in both countries. The target market of the product is said to be tourist associations, hotels, ports and travel agencies which they are hoping will become partners in the near future. Most regions offer a variety of e-bikes to choose from and these will depend on customer needs as well as the layout of the area.
