Hungaroring to remain on F1 calendar

After much speculation, the Hungarian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One calendar until at least 2026. A deal was signed in 2013 to see the race stay from 2017 to 2021 and the same type of deal has been agreed this week from 2022 to 2026. After first appearing in the schedule in the mid-1980s, it has become somewhat of a fan favourite and this news will be welcomed across the F1 community.

Bernie Ecclestone, Chief Executive of Formula One, has said “Yes, we’ve a new deal. They’re good supporters, they do a good job, good for the country, good for us, and I’m very, very happy. We’re always happy in Hungary and we’re staying there.’’

Miklos Sesztak, National Development Minister in Hungary, said “Without giving out secrets regarding the details of our contract, I can tell you we’ll be able to organise and run our F1 race for another five-year period under very favourable terms. However, despite the fact that after the grand prix everybody seems to be satisfied, saying thy’ve had a great time here, we know further improvements are needed.”

“The resurfacing work that has just finished was the first step in this direction,” continued Sesztak. “I can reveal the 2017 governmental budget submits substantial resources earmarked for the development of the circuit. This is because every year the race is one of the most important sporting events for our country, so the government of Hungary is committed to a good quality track such as the Hungaroring.”

This years highly anticipated Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on the weekend of 22-24 July.
