New Romanian Product Line for Decathlon

2019-01-21 source own
With locations in Timisoara, Resita, and Bucharest, Decathlon is set to pay tribute to these factories with a ‘Made in Romania’ product range in the coming months. Currently, all three manufacturing facilities produce sporting goods and equipment for the French brand but under private labels. For example, Timisoara produces bags while Bucharest focuses on shoes; the products range from cycling accessories to mountain trekking and hiking. Not only are they sold internally, they also reach the European distribution network for Decathlon.

When it comes to the 20 goods produced in the country, these three facilities contribute 60% of total sales and Decathlon has a deep history in Romania. Back in June 2018, it was reported that three million units have been produced for Decathlon at the VeloCity bicycle plant in Resita over the last decade. What's more, 900,000 bicycles of the 13 million made in the EU came from Romania in 2017. Of this amount, 500,000 units were exported and these numbers made Romania the sixth-largest bicycle producer in Europe.

Ultimately, Decathlon and Romania seem to be a match made in heaven; the brand has five stores and recently had to introduce a new strategy to meet the growing internet demand for sporting goods.
