Poland Surpasses Spain in EU Household Wealth Index: Insights from Eurostat's 2022 Data

2023-08-01 source own
The most recent data from Eurostat, accounting for actual individual consumption (AIC) per capita and adjusting for purchasing power parity (PPP) among nations, reveals that Poland, scoring 86% of the EU average, has surpassed Spain (85%) and is slightly trailing behind Ireland (87%) in 2022.

The AIC index measures all goods and services utilized by households, encompassing those directly bought and services provided by government and nonprofit organizations, such as health and education services.

Countries with the highest household wealth are Luxembourg (138%) and Germany (119%), while those at the lower end are Bulgaria (67%) and Hungary (72%). Poland has also managed to outperform other long-standing EU nations such as Portugal (85%) and Greece (78%) in this ranking.

Other metrics too echo Poland's advancements in recent years. For instance, concerning GDP per capita at PPP, Poland overtook Greece in 2015 and Portugal in 2021, though it continues to lag behind Spain in that specific measure.
