Rumour had been surrounding the hosting duties for the 2019 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships for quite some time before finally being revealed as Sofia, Hungary by the International Skating Union (ISU) this week. The announcement was big news for the country that has just recently entered its bid to host the Winter Olympics. This will be the third time the city has hosted the event after previously holding the 1999 and 2010 versions.

Many other events were awarded to cities including the World Figure Skating Championships in the same year which will be held in Saitama City, Japan. The event will end the five-year wait for Saitama Super Arena after last holding skating’s greatest stars in 2014.

Furthermore, Dordrecht in Netherlands has been named as the host of the European Short Track Championships, also in 2019. One event still without a host is the European Figure Skating Championships. Finally, Taiwans capital Taipei was given the duty of holding the 2018 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships which excludes European skaters.
