Budapest Olympic bid receives support in poll

With the 2016 Olympic Games coming to an end, attention turns to future evens and with the 2020 event already taken care of, much of the attention has been on the 2024 Games. According to reports, Budapest are one of the lead runners and a recent poll suggested that nearly 60% of Hungarians would be happy and proud if they were to receive the responsibility.
In the poll, around 1,000 people were questioned and two-thirds said that they could do as good a job (if not better) than Rio. Towards the end of this summer’s Games, Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, met with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to discuss their bid. Orban noted how the IOC’s Agenda 2020 is “tailored” to Hungary and it will allow more medium-sized cities to host the Games in the years ahead. After discussing the event, the Prime Minister promised that investments would be made in tourism, transport, and sport before the Olympics would take place.
Overall, Budapest are just one of the four candidates with Los Angeles, Rome, and Paris providing the competition. In a recent meeting with IOC’s executive board, it is thought that Budapest’s bid received positive feedback and they were told that they were well-suited to host the event.
Going back to the polls, they suggested that all levels of society were supportive of Budapest hosting the event with people aged 20-30 showing the strongest support. All in all, the figures were very similar to the last survey in December and showed that the Rio Games hadn't really affected the judgement of the Hungarian public.
