Czech Retail Outlet Owner Invests in Production Facility for Toy Race Cars

Petr Homolka recently purchased a Plzeň production facility that manufactured toy racing car circuits in communist Czechoslovakia. Mr. Homolka owns toy chain store outlets like Bambule and Sparkys.

The Plzeň production facility worked under the brand name Faro. Wormelen group, owner of the holding company, has earned a 51% stake in FAROfactory which manufactured toy racing car circuits as a national company in former socialist Czechoslovakia since the 1960s. The toy racing system was popular during that time throughout the entire Soviet bloc. The company was the only manufacturer of electric racing circuits for toy cars in the country and for a long time, they had no competition on the eastern European and Soviet market. At the time, Faro made 100,000 units yearly.

The volume of sets made today is far smaller, but the demand is still high. The race car set, which is currently popular among enthusiasts partly influenced by nostalgia, has temporarily sold out. However, this should be changed by the new financial investment from the new majority investor and owner. Production is expected to be extended and toy store shelves are expected to be filled with new units. The toys may even be exported to Russia once again.
