HUF 200 mln cycle route being built in Baranya County

The government of Hungary is investing HUF 200 million into a new cycle road between the settlements of Szederkény and Bogád (both 200 km southwest of Budapest). This will help people living in the area to get to work with their bikes.  The local government of Szederkényi is financing the development that will help people living in the area to get to work with the HUF 193 million won in the Regional and Settlement Development Operational Program.  Along with being environmentally friendly, this investment also helps residents without cars or public transportation access opportunities for more employment options.

Investment in Cycling in Central Europe

Recently, the Hungarian government announced a plan to invest $10 million in cycling infrastructure and promotion of cycling tourism. The investment will be allocated for the construction of new cycle tracks and bike parking facilities; improving signage on existing routes; supporting bicycle tourism with improved marketing campaigns and promotional events, as well as training local cyclists.  This announcement follows a recent report that showed that there has been an increase in cyclist deaths due to traffic accidents. In addition, there is already a lack of 1 million bikes for rental purposes, which could be problematic if Hungary decides to shift towards renewable energy sources.
