New Blind Football League in Central Europe

The ‘Central European Blind Football League 2016’ is the new competition to be held this year with the aim of increasing awareness and popularity of the sport. The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has announced that the league, consisting of four teams, is a creation in an attempt to spread the sport to more countries across Europe. The competing teams are; LASS Budapest, Sprint Wroclaw, AVNR Bacau and BSC Prague.

A team from each of Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Romania will compete over the four dates to win the inaugural competition. Each country will host a weekend of fixtures starting on May 27 in Budapest. The teams will then travel to Wroclaw for the weekend starting June 24. September 2 marks the end of a long summer break when the teams will play fixtures in Prague before bringing the competition to a close in Buzau, Romania on October 14.

The fixtures for these weekends are yet to be announced but should be made soon with around 7 weeks until the opening weekend in Budapest. Event organisers are hoping to attract good crowds and possibly more teams which would allow the calendar to be extended in future years. The news of this league was announced after a successful workshop in Portugal which saw players come together with coaches; this workshop, the league, and more, could be the beginning of an ever-growing sport.
