New strategy for Albania by EBRD

2016-01-27 source own
Since the very first project in Albania, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invested just under €1 billion in over 70 projects and the work in the country shows no signs of stopping as a new four-year plan is announced. The strategy outlines the importance of boosting competitiveness of the private sector, expanding regional linkages as well as promoting the sustainability of public utilities during the time period from 2016 to 2019.

Firstly, the EBRD will look to help the private sector via debt and equity financing and advisory services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). They will also look to work with commercial banks to improve financing for companies throughout Albania.

Secondly, the EBRD will look to improve cross-border transport and energy infrastructure by working with both the European Union and many other bodies with the aim of increasing Albania’s ability to trade as well as strengthening energy security. The EBRD will also support a complete make-over of the power sector and invest heavily into environmental infrastructure.

In all the aforementioned projects, the EBRD will work in accordance with the Albanian government’s priorities as well as working closely with the European Union.
