The growth of the overall Sporting goods market in Poland is expected to have grown by 5.4% in 2014. The largest growth sector is online with a growth rate of 12% year on year with Poland’s leading e-commerce site Allegro reporting a 17% increase in sales of its Sporting goods and footwear sector between January 2014 and July 2014. The largest sports retailer in Poland is Decathlon the French sporting giant, which has 33 stores with over 120 000 square meters of retail space. It's reported that Decathlon has nearly 10% market share. Independent sports retailers account for about 40% of the market with sporting chains accounting for 29% of all sporting goods sales in the Polish market.
Running is an area along with Football, cycling and volleyball that is growing in Poland with Running goods sales increasing by 28% in the first two quarters of 2014, football good sales increased by 11%, Cycling good sales by 8% and Volleyball by 6%. The largest sector for sporting goods sales is the apparel sector with overall sales of 35%.
As the population of Poland becomes wealthier than their disposable income grows, which will only benefit the Sporting goods industry, another factor that will help with growth is the trend for people who spend more of their time on active leisure and a healthier lifestyle. As incomes increase then consumers demand higher quality technical clothing and sporting equipment manufactured from the highest quality materials.
