Polonia Warszawa is set to embark on a significant redevelopment of its sports complex at 6 Konwiktorska Street in Warsaw, following the issuance of a construction permit. The comprehensive project, estimated at PLN 500 million, aims to modernize the facility and enhance its offerings for both athletes and the community.
Project Overview
The redevelopment plan includes:
New Football Stadium: The existing stadium, currently accommodating approximately 7,000 spectators, will be expanded to seat 16,000 fans. The traditional arrangement of the stands will be preserved to maintain the venue's historic character.
Sports Hall: A modern indoor arena designed to host various sports and community events.
Sports Support Centre: A facility dedicated to athlete training and development, providing state-of-the-art resources.
City Square: An open public space aimed at fostering community engagement and recreational activities.
Underground Parking: A subterranean parking facility with over 700 spaces to accommodate visitors and reduce street congestion.
Phased Development Approach
The project is structured into three phases to ensure continuous use of the existing facilities:
Phase One: Construction of the sports hall, Sports Support Centre, and the underground parking facility.
Phase Two: Development of three new stands—north, south, and east—around the football pitch.
Phase Three: Renovation of the main stand to align with modern standards and aesthetics.
Throughout the construction, the football pitch will remain operational, allowing Polonia Warszawa to continue hosting matches without interruption.
Public-Private Partnership
The redevelopment will be executed through a public-private partnership. The City of Warsaw plans to finance approximately 20% of the total cost, with the remaining investment coming from a private partner. In return, the private investor will have the right to manage the facilities for a 30-year period.
Architectural Vision
Designed by JSK Architekci, renowned for projects like the National Stadium and Legia Warsaw's stadium, the new complex aims to integrate seamlessly with the urban landscape. The design emphasizes openness, removing barriers to create a welcoming environment for all residents. Additionally, the adjacent Traugutta Park will be expanded, enhancing green spaces and community areas.
