The World Championships in Sheffield proved to be a wonderful tournament once more but there was also other good news from the two-week event. Chair of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBAS), Jason Ferguson, took the opportunity to announce plans to enter the sport into the 2024 Olympics Games. The Paralympic Games in the same year is also an intended destination for the sport.

Ferguson has said of the news “I can confirm that we will be making a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games. We made a late bid for 2020 Tokyo and we did very well. We learned a lot through that process and we know we have the ability to deliver a fantastic Olympic event.”

The first step of the process has been made and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has agreed to test Snooker in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017. If it passes and exceeds expectations, we could find the sport in the Olympics in eight years time.
