State-of-the-Art Climbing Center Opens in Slovenska Bistrica, Slovenia

Slovenska Bistrica, a northeastern Slovenian town, is now home to a new cutting-edge climbing center. This facility, the largest of its kind in Slovenia, spans 3,200 square meters and includes 2,000 square meters of high climbing walls and 1,200 square meters dedicated to bouldering.

The public can access the center from October 7th, following its official opening ceremony the previous day. Initially, the center will cater to recreational climbers and training sessions, but there are plans to host international competitions in the future.

The complex features a climbing hall that stands 17 meters high, alongside warm-up and training spaces, and a separate bouldering section. Additional amenities include a reception area, changing facilities, restrooms, administrative offices, and storage space.

Additionally, there's a 19-meter outdoor climbing wall that includes two speed climbing routes and a section for leisure climbing.

Ursula Pipenbaher, the director of the climbing center, emphasized the inclusivity of climbing, stating that the center offers something for everyone. With 165 climbing routes ranging from beginner level 3 to expert level 8c+, and bouldering challenges with two adjustable walls, the center caters to a wide range of skill levels.

Tomislav Aurednik, president of the Slovenska Bistrica mountaineering club, mentioned that the center was constructed in accordance with the International Federation of Sport Climbing guidelines. It is equipped to host top-tier competitions and serves the needs of both casual and professional climbers.

Makro 5 Gradnje handled the construction of this €5.2 million project. Financial contributions included €2.4 million from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport (now split into the Education Ministry and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation), with the remaining funds provided by the municipality.

The center is open seven days a week, offering daily passes for €15, with discounts for children. Seasonal and family passes are also available.
