Wrocław's Renoma Unveils Innovative Bicycle Storage Facility
2024-06-03 source ownRenoma in Wrocław has introduced a state-of-the-art bicycle storage facility spanning approximately 240 square meters, accommodating over 100 bicycles. This development addresses the increasing demand for robust bicycle infrastructure in urban areas.
Future-Ready Bicycle Infrastructure
Modern buildings must cater to cyclists' needs, promoting cycling as the most eco-friendly mode of transportation. Cycling not only minimizes greenhouse gas emissions but also significantly benefits health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, making it an ideal transport choice.
Features of the New Bicycle Storage Room
Opened on May 15, the new bicycle storage room at Renoma is among the largest in Lower Silesia. Located on level -1, the facility is divided into two modules, offering nearly 330 bicycle racks. The first module includes over 100 spaces with modern bicycle racks like BikeUP lifts, Velopa Up, and OutDoor mountain bike racks, along with traditional options. The second module features a fully equipped professional cloakroom, complete with changing rooms, showers, and hair dryers, ensuring user comfort. An added advantage is the clothes drying room, equipped with hangers and ironing facilities. The entire space is monitored, and cyclists can access it via an elevator or staircase.
Renoma's Historical and Architectural Significance
Renoma, a landmark in Wrocław and an icon of modernist architecture, was originally opened in 1930 as Wertheim Department Store, designed by Berlin architect Hermann Dernburg. The building’s facades are adorned with sculptures of people's heads from around the world, symbolizing cultural diversity and openness. After being damaged during the war, it was partially rebuilt and reopened in 1948 as Powszechny Department Store, fully operational by 1985 and renamed through a public competition.
Modern Developments and Amenities
In 2009, Renoma underwent significant reconstruction and expansion under the guidance of Wrocław architect Zbigniew Maćkow. Today, it houses over 120 shops and service points on the lower floors, with offices and a restaurant on the upper levels. The latest renovation, completed in 2023, restored the pre-war architecture of the courtyards, expanded the offerings, and introduced new functions and amenities.
