Exports increase in Europe for Eastman

2016-07-26 source own

The Eastman Group has been a huge exporter in Europe for many years and now has revenues of over $150 million; however, one area is improving dramatically in the shape of bicycles. After first opening a plant in Ludhiana in 2012, Eastman Industries Ltd, originally from India, now produces over 270,000 bikes per year. Thanks to the success in Europe, they have just recently developed a 12-28 inch range of steel bicycles and have the capability to produce children’s products up to 20 inches. In addition to this, city bikes as well as mountain bikes now fill the company’s product line.

At first, the European plant was opened to target the nearby countries whilst maintaining all the quality and production control requirements laid out in the continent. However, just 12,000 units were exported in their very first year. Fortunes improved in 2014/15 though and this figure improved to 42,000 units; Eastman now plan to blitz this and reach 120,000 bicycles in 2015/16.

In Ludhiana, Eastman has invested heavily on reaching the necessary European standards by importing various processes, wheel-lacing, and tire mounting machines from different countries; the company now has one single assembly line for their products. With growth on everyone’s mind, Eastman has suggested that another assembly line could soon be introduced. When this occurs, it will be using Holland Mechanics machinery. In a bid to increase work space, they will also bring in some new machinery and low-cost automation processes.
