E-commerce on the rise in Ukraine

2016-06-16 source own

After a successful 2015 for the Ukrainian e-commerce market, the total value has now surpassed €1 billion for the first time. This growth surprised many and the country has now reached the milestone quicker than was previously expected after a growth of 35% last year; this meant that Ukraine had the fastest growing e-commerce market in Europe.

Just over 3.5 million Ukrainians shopped online in 2015 which seems like a big amount but still only accounts for 10% of the population (above 15 years of age) which shows that there is still plenty of growth to be had. The average spend in 2014 was €224 which increased during the next twelve months and reached €286 by the end of 2015.

Rozetka proved to be the most popular choice by the Ukrainian public as the site received over 23 million visitors per month. In truth, they were a long way ahead of the next competitor, Allo, who didn't even reach 4 million visitors per month.

Another increase of around one third is expected in 2016 which will value the market at €1.4 billion. Europe’s e-commerce market as a whole is now worth over €500 billion with sportswear, apparel and fashion leading the way.
