German ICG acquired by Brunswick Corporation

It was big news for Indoor Cycling Group (ICG) this week as it was announced that Life Fitness’ parent company, Brunswick Corporation, would be taking over operations. ICG, based in Germany, have been providing consumers with different types of indoor cycling equipment since its startup but will now join US company Brunswick Corporation as part of the Life Fitness brand of products.
Chris Clawson, President of Life Fitness, has noted how this move in the market is a fantastic one for the company as they look to broaden their customer base as well as the products they are currently offering. He also went on to say “ With ICG’s innovative technology, expertise in cycling and talented team, we will be well-positioned to advance in the indoor cycling and group exercise categories. We know that ICG’s culture of innovation and customer-focused approach are a great fit for our team. We look forward to having the ICG group join the Life Fitness family.”
Bernd Purschel, who has been ICG’s CEO since being founded in 1995, will continue in his role and will be working with Clawson. After ICG agreed a deal with Matrix not so long ago, this move came as a surprise to many but also one that will bring benefits to the market. With headquarters in Nuremberg, ICG has built a reputation in Germany especially since adding a Matrix label to its Tomahawk range and it will be interesting to see just how much of an effect this acquisition will have on that particular relationship.
On the other hand, the move will be less of a surprise to all those at Life Fitness and Brunswick Corporation who have already purchased Cybex International for €180 million earlier this year. Furthermore, just twelve months ago they also introduced Scifit into the ever-growing repertoire of Life Fitness brands.
